Marmot Limelight 4P
What I used it for:
Car camping in Michigan, Vermont, and Connecticut
When it comes to car camping we tend to like a little more luxury, but not too much. After doing a few trips to Vermont using a six person tent for just the two of us we decided it was a bit much. We wanted something spacious, but easy enough for one person to set up. The Marmot Limelight 4P hit the sweet spot for us. There is plenty of room for each of us to have our sleeping pads/bags set up along with bringing our duffle bags into the tent. This even leaves room for a dirty laundry pile down by our feet. The twin, large D-shaped doors allow for easy access. These doors are especially great when you have to get up in the middle of the night. You can get in and out without waking your tent mate.
Inside the tent there are pockets in each corner for easy storage. This is my go-to spot for my headlamp and glasses when I don’t use the gear loft. Recently though we have been putting our gear loft up so my headlamp is the only thing down on the side corner. The gear loft is great for cell phones and glasses. They are up high and there is no fear of them accidentally getting crushed. Also at the top of the tent is a small loop where you can hang a lantern or headlamp so you have overhead lighting. This is so much better than each person wearing a headlamp and blinding each other constantly.
With the rain fly on, the Limelight 4 offers more storage space in the vestibule. The vestibule is the prime spot for leaving your boots or shoes so you don’t track dirt into your tent and you keep some of the stink outside. If you were out backpacking or had more than two people in the tent you could also leave your backpacks out in the vestibule to stay covered. The rain fly features two air vents that can be opened up for better air flow. If you know it’s not going to rain, but still want to have some privacy with the rain fly on, I highly recommend unzipping the fly doors and rolling them up. This way you get great airflow through the tent but still have some protection and privacy.
